THE MOST HUMAN THING ABOUT US IS OUR CONNECTION TO EACH OTHER

In July, 2020, we were four women who felt powerless in a pandemic. Between us we’d lost jobs, apartments, a parent and financial stability—all within a few months. In that moment we decided to change our stories into ones of opportunity, resilience and persistence.

Together, we created Served Up—an outdoor live event series during COVID-19 that brought us physically together while bridging divides that politically were spreading us further apart.

R/EVOLUTION

Served Up encourages us to evolve our world view by sparking conversations around revolutionary topics that celebrate individuality, illuminate diverse perspectives and break down retro-norms.

REUNITE: DINING

Produce a safe environment to come together in an outdoor setting for an evening of connection and entertainment.

REFLECT: SPEAKERS

Create thoughtful discussion around content that enlightens, celebrates and moves you — within a judgement free zone.

REVEL: ENTERTAINMENT

4 EVENTS | 800 PEOPLE
50 EMPOWERING VOICES + PERFORMERS

After opening the event a PR sneak peek of our R/Evolution theme, we put on an event every Wednesday night with a different theme and line up for one month in a 20k square foot outdoor space. The entire event was created with Covid-19 safety in mind. From the moment attendees stepped into line to the moment they left, the entire experience was contactless and included gifted Green Goo hand sanitizer, socially distanced seating and contactless food and beverage service.

25 LOCAL BUSINESSES SUPPORTED

Rooted in community, each event featured a local food truck or brewery. We also engaged several women-led brands such as Green Goo and Press Hard Seltzer. Through shared social media blasts, press releases and shares we spread the word all over the city, oversold each event and boosted each other up.

DRAG QUEENS | HBO PRODUCERS | PODCASTERS | OH MY!

A tenant of Served Up is to raise up the voices who need a stage. Our themes, Women For Women: Supporting The Business Fempire, Intertwined: Culture and Inspiration, Project Pride: LGBTQ+ Representation in the Media, and R/Evolution: From Passion to Business each featured panelists who would open their hearts and souls to our audiences to build a connection.

These included HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness producer Kelley Robins Hicks, comedian Whitney Cummings, Kate Tellers of The Moth, Trans actor and writer Becca Blackwell from Ramy, Marriage Story and Shameless, Singer and Millions March organizer Synead and comedian Luis Galilei.

This series wasn’t funded by big brands, but by our time, our heart and our personal funds. We were incredibly fortunate to have others donate time, product and work to help pull this crazy thing off.
